Ingredients

Milk Thistle

Milk Thistle is an herb that has been used as a liver protector and healer for thousands of years in Europe. Clinical trials in Europe have shown some promising results in treating patients with liver diseases using Milk Thistle or its purified active components.

The secret ingredient in Milk Thistle is the flavonolignans complex of molecules called Silymarin which represents almost 70% of a Milk Thistle extract. Silymarin contain an active molecule named Silybin constituting half of Silymarin extract. Silymarin is a potent antioxidant that neutralizes oxidative free radicals. These free radicals result from normal metabolic breakdown of toxic substances in liver cells, from normal cellular metabolism, and from external toxic molecules. Excessive oxidative stress is a common pathological mechanism contributing to initiation and progression of liver damage in a variety of liver disorders such as alcoholic liver disease, chronic viral hepatitis, autoimmune liver diseases and non-alcoholic hepatitis. As an antioxidant Silymarin is much more potent than vitamin C or E. However, Silymarin has been shown to synergize with vitamin C in providing protection against toxicity in the liver by lead. Silymarin oral administration also protects against iron-induced hepatic toxicity in vivo.

The liver is constantly absorbing toxins from the blood to neutralize them but some of these toxins are too poisonous even for the liver to handle. Deathcap mushroom is such a poison and is commonly lethal. Silymarin is used as an effective antidote to Deathcap mushroom. Silymarin also protects liver cells from diverse toxic agents including environmental toxins, alcohol, and drugs.

Research suggests that Silymarin may protect the liver through a number of mechanisms. Silymarin has its own direct antioxidant activity. And Silymarin may further enhance its own antioxidant activity by two mechanisms. 1) By protecting against glutathione depletion, since glutathione is the major natural antioxidant produced inside all cells. 2) By promoting the production of superoxide dismutase (SOD), an essential antioxidation enzyme.

Silymarin can have other liver protection effects through other mechanisms. It enhances glucuronidation, the conjugation of glucoronic acid to toxins to allow their removal through the bile. Silymarin also inhibits the formation of leukotrienes, which are very toxic, natural inflammatory molecules, by inhibiting the enzyme lipoxygenase. Silymarin research has also shown significant anti-inflammatory activity in liver tissue. Silymarin may also protect the liver from fibrosis through anti-fibrosis activity.

Silymarin may also heal the liver after the toxicity damage is done by repairing the damaged liver cells and helping in the regeneration of new healthy liver cells. The mechanism of cell repair and regeneration may occur through activation of protein synthesis in liver cells. Silymarin has been shown to enhance protein synthesis in liver cells.

One of the most important mechanisms of Milk Thistle protection of the liver seems to be in the ability to stabilize and protect cell membranes around liver cells. Silymarin can minimize toxin damage to the liver by blocking toxin uptake by the liver which protects liver cells from extensive damage. When toxic material is prevented from entering liver cells the kidney will also have enough time to remove them from the body and spare the liver in the long term.

Astragalus Root

Extracts from Astragalus herb roots are ancient Chinese medicine in use for many centuries to boost the immune system to fight viral and bacterial infections. One of the main elements in Astragalus is a collection of flavonoids compounds which have well established antioxidant activity. Astragalus roots have been shown to inhibit oxidative metal induced stress by scavenging metal free radicals. One research group showed anti-liver fibrosis effect of Astragalus flavonoids in the laboratory. The effect was associated with the antioxidation activity of the flavonoids.

Astragalus also has promising anti-cancer activity. One study used over 100 Chinese herbal formulas to be screened and evaluated for their ability to minimize the toxic side effects of anticancer agents. One formula containing Astragalus was shown to enhance the activity of chemotherapeutic agents, inhibit recurrence of malignancies, prolong survival, and reduce the adverse toxicities of radiotherapy and anti-cancer compounds. Another study demonstrated the cancer growth inhibition activity of Astragalus in animals with kidney cancer. This effect was strongly associated with Astragalus immune boosting properties. Liver cancer development in animals was shown to be suppressed with Astragalus diet treatment for a few weeks.

Schizandra Berry Powder

The function of Schisandra as a liver protecting fruit is well known in the Far East in China, Japan, and Korea. Several laboratories researching Schisandra extracts effect on liver cells and tissue have shown promising results of liver protection. Schisandra extracts have been shown to inhibit the toxicity of the common pain killer drug acetaminophen in freshly isolated liver cells in culture as an example of its power to neutralize toxins.

Lignans are phytosterols (plant steroids) that are found in abundance in Schisandra berries extracts. Lignans have strong antioxidant activity in the liver. Acute hepatic failure in animals can be prevented with the oral administration of a Schisandra lignans compound. Multiple studies in Japan demonstrated a role for Schisandra extract in blocking the promotion of hepatocarcinogensis (liver cancer development) by tumor promoters in an animal model of the disease. One study suggested that Schisandra compounds protect liver cells by protecting their membranes.

Schisandra lignans can improve the glutathione (antioxidant enzyme) defense system, the level of glutathione, and the activity of glutathione peroxidase. Moreover, the lignans inhibit the formation of cellular peroxides free radicals. These results implicate Schisandra lignans directly in enhancing the antioxidation functions of cells.

Scientists around the globe are telling us Planet Earth is dangerously polluted. Diseases, associated with this toxicity are soaring.

300,000 newborns in the US each year are exposed to toxic mercury during pregnancy. Each year, 3 million agricultural workers in developing countries experience severe poisoning from pesticides. In the US between 4,000 and 20,000 cases of cancer are caused per year by pesticide residues in food considered allowable amounts by the government. In China, an estimated half million people are poisoned by pesticides each year.

The burden of removing these harmful poisons and toxins out of our bodies is the responsibility of our livers and our livers are becoming overwhelmed. An unhealthy (toxic) liver is responsible for diseases and cancers. Liver disease now affects 1 in every 10 Americans and this statistic is worse in developing countries.

FKC Response

In response to this global problem the scientists at FKC have formulated a powerful, natural liver detoxifier called Liveright.

Liveright combines high quality liver protecting nutraceuticals (health supplement containing nutrients to aid the body without the synthetic drugs) formulated to assist the liver in detoxifying and healing itself. The components of this formula are liver-specific natural herbs and molecules carefully extracted from specific plants and synergistically blended together.

First, Astragalus Root, an ancient herbal medicine, helps boost our immune system to help stop any viral and bacterial infections that might be occurring. It also helps protect against cancer and fibrosis of the liver.

Then, Schisandra Berry, a wild fruit containing natural plant steroids called Lignans, helps to naturally increase our liver’s cells detoxification abilities

In addition, SOD, SuperOxide Dismutase enzyme, helps neutralize superoxide free radicals in our cells.

Milk Thistle contains a molecule called Silymarin that has detoxifying properties more powerful than vitamin C or E. It works toward neutralizing toxins in the  liver and protect against “Haemochromatosis”, an iron-induced liver toxicity.

Finally, Glutathione helps liver enzymes change the fat-soluble toxic molecules into water-soluble molecules to help the body pass these toxins free of the body.

Liveright was designed to:

•Designed to fight liver fibrosis with its anti-inflammatory components

•Promotes strong antioxidation in liver cells to prevent further oxidation damage in the liver

•Promotes antioxidation on liver cell surface where oxidation activity is high

•Promotes liver anti-inflammation by inhibiting the enzyme Lipoxygenase

•Provides components that are known to block powerful toxins from damaging the liver

The Liver as a Shield:

The liver is the largest internal organ in the body and the hardest at work. The liver has many functions critical for survival and health. One of the most important functions of the liver is that it serves a detoxification role. The liver is considered a body guard, a shield against the diverse chemical poisons that our bodies are exposed to every day. Your immune system protects you from harmful living micro-organisms but your liver protects you from harmful chemicals as well as some microbes.

The liver first acts like a blood filter by removing harmful substances and microbes in the blood including everything we consume through our digestive system. Its second function is the neutralization of these filtered poisons. Liver enzymes neutralize water-soluble toxic chemicals. The liver also neutralizes fat-soluble toxic compounds, which comprise most poisonous chemicals, by converting them into water soluble chemicals. Neutralized water-soluble toxins can be efficiently removed from the body by the kidneys and then the urine. Therefore, the liver is a major organ playing a vital role.

The Toxic Environment We Live In:

Many things in our environment that were once natural and clean have become less pure. The air, water, and food we consume have increasingly become toxic. A breath of air is not so fresh in our smog-clouded cities. Much of our natural drinking water has become contaminated with pollutants from fertilizers, sewage and industry. Moreover, polluted water is treated with chemicals like chlorine and fluorine which are widely believed to be toxic to our bodies as well.

The foods and drinks we consume have been treated with a variety of other chemicals designed to "preserve and protect" during growing, processing, preparation, and storage. Some of these toxins are actually put into our food and drink just to make them seem more pleasant or to increase flavor. All together, these harmful chemicals find their way into our livers on daily basis to be filtered and detoxified.

An Exhausted Liver:

Unfortunately, the added strain we put on our livers makes it difficult to handle on a daily basis. The liver has a limited capacity for detoxification and can be overwhelmed and break down when that capacity is exceeded. Continuous exposure to toxic chemicals overwhelms the liver and impairs its function. If impaired, it will no longer be efficient at removing poisons from the body. Needless to say, the body may suffer other diseases and symptoms as a result. The rest of your organs were not designed to handle even moderate doses of toxicity and can be damaged. So now, the problem of a damaged liver has become a problem for all body organs. This can even cause the body to degenerate and age rapidly. There is ample evidence to support the physical well-being and longevity of our bodies are tied to the health of our livers. A healthy liver is definitely a critical formula for a normal or long life span.

Internal Liver Toxicity:

An additional internal source of toxicity is a serious threat to the liver itself. This aspect of the normal detoxification process in the liver generates toxic free radicals to facilitate detoxification of every foreign molecule conceivable. Under normal detoxification loads, the liver can easily keep these free radicals by-products under control. But under a heavy detoxification load, the liver can be overcome with the over-production of free radicals. These natural detoxification by-products then become a threat to the health of the liver and other tissues if not neutralized immediately during detoxification. This is the time when the liver is most vulnerable to oxidative free radical damage.
